“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1)
The Christian faith in Laitkor village began in 1926 through the missionary efforts of the Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church. The first person to embrace Christianity in the village was a young man named Mr. Niam Mawrie. During this period, Miss Ellen Hughes, a missionary from Wales residing in Laitumkhrah, worked closely with the Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church to spread the Gospel in Laitkor. She purchased a large tract of land in the village and built a spacious and beautiful residence.
Before returning to Britain, Miss Ellen Hughes generously donated her house and its surrounding compound to the Church for the benefit of the Christian community, with the vision of establishing a church on the site. Her memorable words, "On this very site, a beautiful House of Worship will one day be built," continue to inspire the congregation.
The first church building was constructed in 1967. Construction of the present church building began in 2015 and was successfully completed in 2021. The total cost of constructing this new house of worship exceeded ₹2 crore, reflecting the faith, dedication, and generous contributions of the congregation and well-wishers.
When Laitkor Presbyterian Church was formally constituted as an independent congregation on 22 January 1967, it had a membership of 215 believers. Since then, the church has experienced remarkable spiritual and numerical growth, standing today as a testimony to God's faithfulness and the enduring commitment of its members across generations.
